This area started to become a tourist destination approximately 40 years ago with only one tiny adventurer hotel, one narrow dirt road, no airport and no services at all.

Today, Bavaro Punta Cana has become the most important tourist and vacation real estate investment destination of the Dominican Republic with more than 40 hotels accounting for over 30,000 rooms, 14 golf courses (more under construction), mega residential developments as Cap Cana, Punta Perla and Roco Ki, all with marina facilities for mega yachts. Numerous private companies provide first class services such as electricity, cable and satellite TV, garbage collection, wireless Internet connections and many others.
